The project focuses on the creation of a regional observatory which will evaluate the enological potential of the grapes of Nemea region according to the sub-regions where they are grown. This will be possible with the use of remote sensing and GIS techniques combined with chemical analytical methods which will reveal the effect of both the abiotic and biotic parameters on the quality of Agiorgitiko wines. The chemical composition of the wines will be related with the microbial flora, soil and climatic parameters of each sub-region. All experimental wines produced by grapes of the different sub-regions will also be sensory evaluated. The establishment of sub-regions of Nemea PDO region will be implemented according to the terroir principles with the employment of sophisticated techniques and will result in more competitive wines.
The Laboratory of Oenology and Alcoholic Beverages of AUA is responsible for the assessment of the aromatic and phenolic potential of Agiorgitiko grapes and Agiorgitiko wines, small scale winemaking and the organoleptic evaluation of Agiorgitiko wines from the different sub regions.
